Drop the Pilot

The band were pleased to be able to help celebrate the wedding last night at Eagle House in Launceston. We could have been a bit more thoughtful when writing out the set list & maybe not have started with ‘Hard to Handle’???

Some great audience participation & dancing from the party goers left us all on a high, thank you! We debuted our new cover ‘Play That Funky Music’ which seemed to go down well & once again, we were joined by the great Ali Corner with her belting out some songs in her own inimitable way. As, we left at 1am, it there was no sign of the party stopping!! Thanks for asking us to play. x

Diana Dean……… From the moment the first chord was played, the dance floor in our marquee filled with a happy crowd of dancers doing their individual moves – some rocked, some bopped and some just lept about with reckless abandon! Great music from very good musicians – nice, friendly guys too!  Thank you Drop The Pilot

The music for the evening kicked off with a two members of the Wojo Bean Band, Angela & Jon playing some nice toons! Thanks to you!!

There was a great turn out & we had the chance to show how “We Cornish” can rock with the best of them!! We played our usual classic rock which included a new number for us, Blur’s ‘Song 2′ which seemed to go down well. We also brought out of our travel case, the delicious Ali Corner who went down a storm again with her songs ‘Mercy’ & ‘River Deep, Mountain High,’ she also sang ‘Mustang Sally’ with Rufus which also included a lot of audience participation!!

Our friend James Linham was kind enough to use his phone to take some video footage which we have put on our Facebook page, thank’s James!! We also did some recording with a simple Minidisc but this appears to have done quite a good job so this will be edited, & songs uploaded when time allows. Well, after all the trauma of generator problems last year, we thought that this year would be a breeze, but more of that later!! This local music event is great fun to attend, & this year there were four acts, ‘Rudh’ a three piece who played mostly original own penned numbers with a couple of covers thrown in, Jeff ‘The Horse’ Horsey, a superb Bluesman, ‘Raw Tones’, a great Rockabilly trio who really had the field rocking, and finally us who were a bit apprehensive about following such a great act!! however, all went well until the middle of ‘Mercy’ which was being sung by our special guest vocalist ‘Ali Corner’ when the electric tripped!!! however, a quick flick of the switch got things underway yet again. Ali also did a great rendition of ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ which nearly blew the roof off the marquee, “Brilliant”! We appeared to go down very well as we had to do 3 encores, so all in all it was a great success!

The stripping of the marquees was delayed until a few days later due to the rain & wind, by which time one of the marquees had taken off across the field, demolishing the ‘Chums’ arctic tent on the way, so some of the proceeds from the event will have to go towards replacement poles etc. Still, ‘that’s Rock ‘n Roll!!

This was the first official public gig for the band since the name change. Rufus, the lead singer is still suffering with a broken foot so there were no fancy dance moves from him but many of the loyal ‘Crew’ were on hand to provide these!! I’m sure that there are some aching hips today for the girls trying to see how ‘low they can go’ during the bass run down during ‘Superstition’!!

 Our new songs, ‘Disco 2000′, ‘Drop the Pilot’, ‘Word Up’, ‘Place Your Hands’ and  ‘Run to You’ seemed to go down well, with much hand waving during the classic Reef number!!
